Montblanc pen for $700.000 - the most expensive writing tool ever

Montblanc Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece
This is when "may I borrow your pen please for a second" deserves a straightforward "no" from the owner. Only days after showing up in their New York store, Mont Blanc sold a pen for $700.000. Yes, go on and count the zeroes once more - that's correct! And, once again, you've missed it!

Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece is a joint creation between Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels, is quite obviously an amazing pen. The reason for making and incredibly expensive and exclusive pen is that last year, both companies celebrated their centennials, and both Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels wanted to show off with their expertise on their profession. Not a bad piece of present, if you ask me.

The pen is prepared in three variations, all of them set with gems - variation by variation these are: emeralds, sapphires or rubies - and all of them are accented by diamonds. Each version is made in three pieces, totaling the number of the Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece in 9. Each pen has 840 diamonds and more than 20 carats of gemstones set in a Van Cleef & Arpels patented "Mystery Setting" that conceals the stone settings. A groove is made on the culet, the bottom facet of the stone, which is then slid onto the threads of the lattice design so that the stones can be held in place side by side without any visible support. The Mystery sells for $730,000, making it the most expensive writing instrument ever created.
