Introducing the Dreamliner - the all-new Boeing 787

Boeing 787 Dreamliner
While the long awaited giant, the Airbus A350 is still struggling with its companie's financial troubles and still facing severe delays, the competitor Boeing just seems to take off smoothly and gently with its latest mega-project, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The new 787 Dreamliner - which is due to be on the market by March, 2008. - is not conquering with size and raw power. It's flying with a style. Dreamliner will be the first commercial aircraft made of composite materials - resulting in smoother, quieter and more fuel efficient (hence: more eco-friendly) flight. Composites are on average 30 percent lighter on a given strenght, than other materials, usually used to make aircrafts (mostly aluminium). This will also reduce the price of the maintenance of the aircraft, resulting in an average of 20 percent lower mpg altogether.

Although the greatest innovation of 787 is considered to be the materials used, it also will feature a lot more:

"We’ve spent a lot of time making the flight deck a very pleasant environment." sais Tom Cogan, the Chief Project Engineer of the 787 Dreamliner. "The first thing we do is around basic safety to make sure this is better than anything we’ve done before, providing better situational awareness for pilots. We design that into the pilot machine interface. The flight deck is dramatic and modern-looking with very large displays so the pilots have access to more and better information. I think pilots will find it a real joy to fly."
